Cet essai, divisé en trois parties, présentera tout d’abord l’enseignement, les recherches, et les mouvements en faveur de LGBT et des enseignements sur la sexualité qui sont organisés par les universitaires et les étudiants de l'Université des Philippines de Diliman, en s'attachant particulièrement aux intérêts et aux objectifs liés à ce sujet.
Ensuite, on orientera la discussion sur les liens existant entre les travaux universitaires sur les sexualités homosexuelles, les questions théoriques et pratiques, et les mouvements en faveur des sexualités homosexuelles qui existent à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur de l’Université des Philippines de Diliman. En conclusion, cet essai abordera la question des directions possibles de recherche, d’enseignement et de défense de LGBT, tout en gardant à l’esprit les défis et les occasions de développement qui s’annoncent dans ce domaine.
Eufracio C. Abaya is Professor in the Department of Anthropology, University of the Philippines. Born in 1954, he was educated at the University of the Philippines (AB Anthropology, 1978; MA Anthropology 1986) and the Michigan State University (MA Anthropology, 1991; PhD Anthropology, 1994). He teaches medical anthropology, psychological anthropology, folklore, museology, world ethnography, theory and methodology. His research interests fall within the rubrics of the anthropology of emotion, gender and sexuality, migration, transcultural psychiatry, and the politics of heritage conservation. He is a former director of the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) and previously a member of the National Advisory Board of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Social Science Council.
Nikos Dacanay is a graduating MA student from the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines studying Southeast Asia with Thailand as his area of concentration. He finished BA in Sociology from the same university. His MA thesis is on gay saunas and other spaces in Bangkok and their relation to gay identities. His research interests are the following: Thai pop culture, gender and sexuality, and modern history of Southeast Asia.
